What is Natural Wine About?

Whether you love or hate natural wines they all speak directly to people like an emotion communicated in a poem or when food conveys strong natural flavors or even an intense piece of music that moves us. The problem with natural wine is that the process has risks which mean there is usually no consistency.

The first thing the natural vigneron has to ask themselves is what is the nature of my terroir? This is because low sulfur wines really can’t be called ‘natural’ unless the winemaker uses non-interventionist processes that are begun in the vineyard.

Also the decision to use wild rather than cultured yeasts further determines whether a wine can be called natural. A natural fermentation means many different types of yeast which are present on the fruit will make the wine different every year mainly because each yeast has a different character and reacts and combines differently.

One thing that should never change is the way you store your bottles of wine, it should always be stored under ideal temperature and humidity conditions such as wine cabinets or custom wine cellars. By Wine Cellar Specialists.
